I have a complex application with a data file and a scripts/relationships file. There are tens of tables and hundreds of relationships. I have a problem in that the portal from the Orders table to the Items table is behaving very strangely. When I type a quantity in the appropriate field and then tab to the next field, the value in the previous field 'disappears.' Then, when I enter a value into the second field, it appears to 'take' when I move to the third field. The problem is that when I press the Enter key, the portal shows me two related records: one with the quantity and one with the value I typed into the second field. I've never seen this before (I've been using FMP since version 1 and this happens in 10 and 11).

My first suspicion was that I had two relationships between the two tables and that both relationships allowed portal record creation. Problem is that I've been through the relationships diagram and the db design report several times very carefully and there are no apparent relationships like this, so I'm stumped.

The problem does not seem to happen with other portals that use other tables that use the same FMP files.

I do hope that I have not discovered an FMP bug or that my files are corrupt. The latter would be a real problem for me, given the number of tables, fields, and relationships in this application. Recreating either file from scratch would be a nightmare, just because of the time involved.
