[FMPro] Data separation
Hello everyone,
I have been doing quite some reading up on the topic of data
separation. I have looked at many samples, websites etc. As you are
all well aware of, the FileMaker world is populated by some of the
most helpful and friendly people I have ever come across. It seems
there are two mainstream methods of data separation, 1) To create a
viewer or UI table where each user has their own record and data is
looked up via relationships into many global fields, and 2) also a UI
table with the difference being, that data is accessed more directly
via a reference to the data file which then allows for TOC's in the
UI file. I would like to solicit some opinions as to which method is
best. At this point I am leaning toward the "many global fields"
version.
I hope I phrased my question correctly, essentially I am asking about
the difference between using a global field or putting the related
field on the layout.
What do you think?
best regards
Chris Gippert
