[FMPro] FileMaker Go performance issue and other FM Go complaints!
I have been working on a FileMaker Solution that I need to get on an iPad.
I have resorted to using FileMaker Go and at first glance it seemed pretty
cool. Unfortunately, the more that I have been working with it the more
useless it seems to be for my project.
My three big complaints are performance, date entry fields and portal
scrolling.
1.) Performance. What=B9s with the ridiculously bad screen redraw issues? It=B9s
as if the app has no caching ability at all. I have a list view with
approximately 200 records and every time I scroll up or down I get this
insane top to bottom redraw delay. If you keep scrolling without giving the
redraw a change to catch up all you see is solid white screen.
2.) Data Entry Fields. Why do my data entry fields get larger when the user
enters text? I have gone to painstaking effort to design my gui with precise
pixels placement and then here comes FileMaker Go making it look like some
amateur with no eye for detail create the solution.
3.) Portal Scrolling. Of all the problems this is perhaps the worst. I want
an interface that has a scrolling list on the left side of the display and
the details of the users portal row selection displayed on the right. This
works great on FileMaker Pro but it=B9s a disaster on FileMaker Go because the
user can=B9t easily take their finger and flick the portal row up or down. I
am aware of the ridiculous workarounds that I can implement (using buttons
to scroll through the list) but this is unacceptable. I tried this with my
customer and they though that it was a joke...they hated it!
If I use a web viewer instead of a portal row it solves the scrolling
issue...but as far as I can tell there is no way that I can trigger a script
from the webviewer to load the details for the user=B9s selection.
Does anyone know of a way to solve any of these issues, or perhaps an
alternative to FM Go that would not have these problems.
Thanks.
