[FMPro] Sub line items?
Hi all
I was wondering how some of you would go about the following procedure.
A client deals with imports and exports, they receive an order from a
customer, order it from the factory and the factory ships direct to the
customer.
Normally the ordering process in FM would be straight forward. A table for
orders, then a line items table for the individual items on that order. But
the client has asked for something a bit different.
Lets sat they deal in clothes.
A customer may order 1,500 T-Shirts
The T-Shirts may be a mix of colours and sizes (by %).
My client does not want to manually enter what could be 20 different lines
for the 1 order.
Here is a bit of a tricky bit. The T-Shirts could be shipped at different
times.
They may ship the red T-Shirts size medium one week, then the white T-Shirts
size large the next week and so on.
They want to be able to mark against the order what has been shipped by the
factory
So they want the best of both worlds, just to enter 1 line - 1500 T-Shirts
but then be able to mark off what parts of the order have been shipped.
Here is where I am thinking maybe I need to automatically generate sub line
items?
So my client enters a new line item - 1500 T-Shirts
A new layout is displayed with options where they can enter percentages
against sizes and colours
I guess I would need to pull the options in from somewhere as the colours
and sizes are going to differ depending on the item of clothing.
Depending on what options they enter, new sub line items are generated
against that line item with the full detail of the order.
They do want the full detail to displayed on shipping notes and invoices etc
so I need to add it somewhere!
I also need to display it on screen, a sub line items portal within a line
items portal? Sounds messy.
Does anyone have any thoughts on the best way to handle this procedure?
Many thanks for any advice
Ed
