[FMPro] Synch functionality?
FileMaker Experts,
Is there any kind of built in "Synch" function in FileMaker?
Or do I have to script it myself?
Project: It's a tutoring company, using FileMaker to teach customized lessons.
Some tutors go to the student's home, teach from FileMaker on a laptop, so data is created off-site.
If I have to script it myself, I'm thinking:
I will have a main database file running on FMP Server in their office.
I will set up an "Off-site" or "Stand Alone" version of the database for tutors to put on their laptops.
The two files are mostly the same, very minor differences. The file name is different.
When they get back to the office, they will open the database on the server
Run an "Import" script that looks at the data on their laptop and imports the new data.
Then runs a script on their laptop that deletes all the data on their laptop and imports all the new data.
I want to import all, because there are several tutors doing this, so we want all data on each laptop.
(I can't just copy the whole FMP file from the server, can I?)
Do you see any problems with this?
I'm open to suggestions as to a better way to do synching.
It's FMP 11.
FileMaker Go only runs on iPad, etc, right?
FileMaker Go could do this, but it doesn't work on a laptop. Is that correct?
Not all students have internet access at home, plus Open Remote is slower, so I don't think that's a good answer.
Thank you,
Kevin
