[FMPro] Synch, importing, deleting all
FMP experts,
I would like to do a "Synch" function. I know FileMaker doesn't do this, so I will have to program it.
For this database, a simple, one-way synch or import will work.
We will have a main database file running on the FMP server in the office.
Some staff will put this file on their laptops, take it off site, create new records.
Bring it back to the office, run a script to move/import the new records from the laptop, back to the server.
What would be the best way to do this?
Details: If I copy the file to a laptop, using the same name, then "import" won't work, right?
I can't import records from one file to another, if the names of the files are the same.
Is that correct?
Here's one way:
I make a copy of the file, rename it, "Laptop version."
Set up a "Synch script"
Script finds the new records on the laptop version.
Runs an import script on the server version that imports those new 20 records.
What's should I do next?
Scrip: delete all records in the Laptop version
and imports all records from the server (so they can start again with a current version)
Alternatively, I can't just copy the server version, to get a new copy for the laptop, because I'd have to quit FMP server. Seems not very user friendly for non-compter people to do.
What would you suggest as the best way to do this simplified synch function?
Thanks to Jonathan and Michael for previous suggestions.
Kevin
