File plugin for client to server uploads
Hi,
I'm developing a database which will run on an FMSA 10 and the clients
will be using FMP 10 to access it.
I need to enable the clients to send files to the database using
native FM, but have the files in question be placed in the server's
filesystem. This is because we have other infrastructure on the server
that need to access the files via the filesystem. However, the
filesystem that the files should be placed in isn't accessible from
the clients. They and the server are seperate, with the only
connection being the native FM client.
I see two primary options:
1) Let the client put the file in a container, and then call a server
script that takes the contents of the container and writes it to a
file in the filesystem. Assuming this is possible to do with server-
side scripts.
2) Use a plugin which can run on the client, offer an upload dialog of
appropriate nature, and then send the file to the server, where some
accompanying part (for example a server-side plugin, if this is
needed) puts the file on the filesystem. I presume the latter part is
needed because the originating plugin must run on the client and won't
be able to tell the server to do stuff on its filesystem.
My question for you is pretty general; Does this sound feasible? If
so, are there any plugins that can take care of the whole option #2,
or do I need to use the "temporary container" approach?
The files that are to be uploaded are somewhat heavy image files, so
I'd prefer it if they could be transferred just once, from the client
to the server.
Thank you,
// Leo
