Hide Filemaker built-in progress bar
Hi all
I am using a nice little trick I found on one of the FileMaker forums (or it
may have been mentioned in these lists) which uses a webviewer to display a
spinning wheel (like the Apple wheel on the iPhone when starting up) when an
action is taking place.
I also update a status field while the action is taking place which informs
the user what we are actually doing at the time. Importing records, cleaning
records, sorting records etc
The action is normally importing records, performing a script that can take
20 seconds or so, or deleting a number of records
The problem I have is that this works great when I fake it to test it. i.e.
start the progress wheel, pause the script for 10 seconds, then stop the
wheel. It looks great.
But when I incorporate real world scripts into this it doesn't work very
well.
The button starts the wheel spinning (by setting a variable) it then starts
the import.
Problem is once the import starts, the FileMaker screen freezes (and so the
wheel stops spinning) and the standard FileMaker import progress bar takes
over. Everything freezes until the import finishes, the screen is then
released and my wheel spins again for a second and the script is over.
The same happens when I am deleting a couple of thousand records, the wheel
starts off fine, but then the screen freezes and the FileMaker progress bar
takes over the view and the screen releases once the deletion has finished
and the built-inprogress bar closed.
Are there any tricks which will keep the current view active, hide the
FileMaker progress bar, and keep the webviewer running in view and being
able to perform?
It isn't the be all and end all but it looks pretty good during the test, I
just need it to work when it is actually performing an action.
Just so you know what's happening, the webviewer is checking the status of a
variable. If the variable = "progress", the webviewer displays the spinning
wheel.
If the variable is empty the webviewer is empty. So I just change the
variable at the start of the script and change it again at the end of the
script.
Many thanks for any assistance you can give again.
Ed
