Problem with import
I have a table (Consolidated) into which I am importing records from
five other tables in the same database file. Each of these five other
tables has been created by importing individual CSV files which were
provided to me. I'm doing the imports manually and am attempting to
update matching records in the found set with the add remaining data
as new records option checked. Each table has the same structure and a
unique ID (RNCID, which is a text field with 10 numeric digits) which
serves as my match field.
My first four tables import properly. Matching records are updated,
and records for which there is no RNCID match are added to the
Consolidated target table. After each of these imports I check to see
if there are any duplicate records (checking the RNCID field) in the
Consolidated target table, and there are none.
The problem is with the fifth table. When I import it, all of the
records are indeed imported, but about 15,000 new records are added
which are duplicates. That is, there is a matching RNCID entry already
in the Consolidated table, but records are being added instead of
being updated. In examining a few of the supposed duplicates, the
RNCID match fields appear to have exactly the same data. I had
supposed that there might be some extraneous characters in the RNCID
field of the fifth table that was breaking the match, so I replaced
it's contents with Filter("RNCID";"0123456789") to see if that would
help. I reimported and got the same duplicates. Then I changed the
field type of RNCID to number in both the source and target tables and
reimported, but that didn't help either. The duplicates are still
there.
What am I missing here? I'm using FM10A on Windows XP.
Thanks for any suggestions.
