Relationship based on variable fields?
The problem:
My database is used to track contacts (members, etc) for an
organization, and their attendance and payment for sponsored events.
I have a table of contacts, a table for a master list of events that
includes a schedule of fees, and a table for events attended (linked to
the contacts). There are 4 fee categories (full registration, day 1,
day 2, and trade show only), and 3 attendee categories (member, non
member, student). However, not all events require all fee categories.
For example, we have a half-day workshop that is one price for all
attendees.
I am currently using repeating fields, one each for members, non
members, and students, with 4 repetitions showing the fee structure. I
suppose there are other ways than repeating fields, and am willing to
hear suggestions.
What I want to do is set up the fee structure so that it is variable
based on another repeating field that can be set to show some
designation. For example, the conference event would have Full
registration, Day 1, Day 2, and Trade Show Only as the repetitions in
this fee label field. The half-day workshop would have only the first
repetition filled with Workshop. (And each of the 3 attendee status
fields would have the same number entered.)
I then need this to show up in a portal. How do I create the
relationship so that it will show the correct label in the portal?
How do I create a value list that shows the appropriate fee options for
the event selected?
Thanks,
