question on data migration to SQL Server from FM
I am trying to figure out the best way to do this migration. One problem is the data is medical data and they want to do it in house. They want me to write a script to automate it. I'm thinking that FM Migrator would just be what they need really. What needs to be automated? CAn't you just import all the csv files for each table and do transformation in SSIS?
Assuming that I verify there are no repeating fields then what data could be lost from exporting the data into csv files then importing to SQL Server? There are value lists. So if you do an export to csv then an import into SQL Server would you loose the data in the value lists in the export? What else could you loose? Is there no way to automate it without looking at the tables to verify the structure?I am assuming the key fields are correct. There is a technical staff to do the import but they are not Filemaker wonks.
