sorting in lists
I have something of a puzzle here, though I'm sure there must be a
logical explanation.
I have a list view layout with a large number of fields. Some of the
fields are in the TO the layout is based on, and some are from related
TOs.
Most of the fields need to be sortable, so I've made their headings
into buttons.
The trouble is that in some of the fields any nulls are sorted to the
top of the list, and in others they're sorted to the bottom. What I
need is for the nulls to be consistently sorted to the bottom of the
list.
Some observations:
Sorts on the 'native' TO
1. All the sorts are ascending except that in no. 2. Some are text
fields, and some are dates.
2. The only field which sorts the nulls to the bottom is a date. This
is sorted descending.
Sorts on related TOs
3. All the fields are text fields.
4. Some fields sort the nulls to the top and some to the bottom.
I did think of a fudge, where I could use calculated fields, where any
nulls would be replaced by "zzzzzz" or something (or "31/12/2999" for
dates), which would be made invisible by conditional formatting. Not
very clean, though. So I'd like to know exactly what's causing this
and what I might be able to do about it in a purer way if possible.
Any comments or guidance gratefully received. Thanks.
